On to the Playoffs

We played the last game of the regular schedule of the Torneo de Apertura on Friday night against Escazu, 10-73. We had a few objectives going into the game which we fulfilled for the most part. The young Escazu team is much improved, even without several of their veteran guys on Friday. They will be one of the favorites in the National Games at the end of the year; this experience in First Division will be very valuable to several of those players.

As was expected our appeal was rejected. FECOBA never admits a mistake on a scoring sheet. That loss was on me; I should have made sure that our player complied with the minutes. It was also on me to verify that the rule had been changed...despite the rule not passing by a unanimous vote by club presidents before the season, it somehow ended up in the rulebook. That's just the way stupidity seeps into our rule book. Just when we get rid of the dumb categorization, we end up with a worse Sub 21 rule: the people leading our Federation are blind to the damage they're creating. We are ruining a generation of basketball players...and then we wonder what happened.

So even though we lost only once on the court so far, ended up with the third seed. Our opponent will be Coopenae ARBA San Ramon; we've been able to beat them twice but they were both tight games. Should be a good series with Game 1 at Desamparados on Tuesday.

Game Notes

  • Jaythiev Davis had a season high 18 points on Friday. Off the top of my head, we've had five different leading scorers in the 14 games of the regular season.
  • The semifinal series will have a condensed schedule: Game 1 Tuesday at Desamparados, Game 2 Thursday at San Ramon, Game 3 at San Ramon (if necessary).
  • Barva and Cartago will square off in the other playoff series. Cartago will be without one of their big guns, Agrijalba, as he's slated for surgery this week.
